Former Vice President of Nigeria
Atiku joined the Nigeria Customs Service in 1969 and rose to the position of Deputy Director before his voluntary retirement in 1986. Upon retirement Atiku went into private business followed by an active political career where he was elected as Governor of Adamawa State and later Vice President of Nigeria in 1999. He is a founding member of the governing Peoples Democratic Party and before that, a founding member of the Peoples’ Front (PF), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Since leaving public office Atiku has settled into building his businesses, including Orlean Invest, one of Nigeria's largest business conglomerates, and Priam Group.
